+381 21 2984 111The most beautiful view of the town and the surrounding nature is offered from Magareći breg (Donkey Hill) — a place dedicated to the poet Duško Trifunović, after whom Duško's Viewpoint is named.
The very top is adorned by a gilded cross and a sculpture of the poet, sitting on the steps as if resting in silence and soaking up the beauty of Sremski Karlovci.
Book accommodation at the luxury Premier Prezident Hotel in Sremski Karlovci and visit Duško's Viewpoint!
The central place of the viewpoint is occupied by the monument to the poet, the work of sculptor Stevan Filipović. Duško is depicted exactly as his friends remembered him – unpretentiously, in a sitting position, as if he had just stopped to rest and come up with new verses while gazing into the distance. Beside him rises a large gilded open cross, a symbol of the spirituality of this region. The ambience exudes peace and invites visitors to, just like the bronze poet, sit down, slow down time, and enjoy the most beautiful sunset in Vojvodina.
Last WishAlthough born in the vicinity of Bosanski Brod, and having lived in Sarajevo and Novi Sad, Duško's wish was to be buried right here in Sremski Karlovci. He considered it the "most Serbian town" and wanted to rest in a place from which everything he loved could be seen.
"Ima neka tajna veza"Many tourists are surprised to learn that the man whose monument they are looking at wrote the lyrics for some of the biggest hits of Yugoslav rock, including songs by "Bijelo Dugme" (Ima neka tajna veza, Šta bi dao da si na mom mjestu) and Zdravko Čolić (Glavo luda).
A Million Dollar ViewFrom this point, all the symbols of Karlovci can be seen in the palm of your hand: the Patriarchate building, the Cathedral Church, the Karlovci Gymnasium, and the vast plain hugging the Danube.
Donkey Hill (Magareći breg)The name of the hill dates back to the time when loads were transported up the steep streets of Karlovci with the help of donkeys, because the ascent was too difficult for horses and carts.
